Major General Konstantinos Velegrakis was born in 1959 in Crete. He entered in the Hellenic Military Academy in 1977 and graduated in 1981 as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. After his graduation and for a period of 19 years, he served in the Special Forces.
He was promoted to the ranks of Colonel in 2006, Brigadier General in 2009 and Major General in 2012.
He graduated successfully from all the basic and advanced Infantry and Special Forces cources and Hellenic Army War College. Furthermore, he graduated successfully from the Underwater Demolition Unit School of the Hellenic Navy, and other Special Forces courses in Germany.
He served in the Special Forces in various positions and also as Unit Commander. Later served as Chief of Staff of the 1st Parachutists Brigade and Director of A’ Branch of the B’ Army Corps Staff.In 2009 he assumed Command of the 80 HNGBC (Hellenic National Guard Battalions Command)
In 2011 assumed the duties of Deputy Commander of the 90 HNGBC and in 2011 the duties of the Deputy Commander of the HMCII (Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands).
On 26th March 2013, he assumed Command of the Hellenic Military Academy.During his career, he has been awarded with all decorations and
medals for his rank.
He is married with two children and recently grandfather.
