Major General Christos Karyotis was born in Glykoneri-Komotini in 1961.
He entered the Hellenic Military Academy in 1979 and graduated in 1983, as an Infantry Second Lieutenant.
He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1986, to Captain in 1990, to Major in 1995, to Lieutenant Colonel in 2001, to Colonel in 2008, to Brigadier General in 2011 and finally to Major General in 2014.
He served in the Special Forces for 20 years, as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander and Staff Officer in several Special Forces Units. Furthermore he has served as a Staff Officer in the Army’s General Staff, in the Staff of the A’ Corps and in the Staff of the 21 Mechanized Infantry Regiment.
During his career he assumed the command of the 618 Mechanized Infantry Battalion, of the Parachutists School, of the Cadets Regiment and of the 3 Mechanized Brigade. Later he served as Deputy Commandant of the Hellenic Military Academy and finally he assumed the Command of the Hellenic Military Academy.
He has successfully completed all Infantry courses and also the Army War College and the National Defense College. Furthermore he has graduated from all the trainings of the Parachutists School and, the Special Forces School, the Underwater Demolition Unit School of the Hellenic Navy and the Special Forces Officer’s Advanced Training School.
During his career, he has been awarded with all decorations and medals for his rank.
He is married with daughters.
